The village includes four parts: Petrovice u Karviné, Dolní Marklovice, Prstná and Závada. These four territories used to be independent villages. They have been united and separated so many times. In 1952 they decided to be one village called Petrovice u Karviná. The river Petrůvka runs through the village and it’s bordered by Poland.
Beside of railway border crossing there are also three border crossing points: Petrovice u Karviné – Skrbeńsko, Závada – Gołkowice a Dolní Marklovice – Marklowice Górne.
In the village there are many of interesting places, attractions including several historical monuments.
Visitors can use Czech-Polish cycling routes connecting the three border points: Polish village Godów, Zebrzydowice and Petrocie u Karviné. On the territory of Petrovice are two protected areas: natural monuments “Dolní Marklovice” and bird area “Heřmanský stav – Odra – Poolší”.
The village has lot of interesting cultural and sport events. They organize a festival every single year in the last week of August. The most popular sport event is international championship of motocross in Czech Republic which hosts a local motocross area “Petrovická kotlina”.
